Our work
Being part of our trading floor is always full of challenges. As markets are constantly changing and developing, you must be bold, jump in with both feet and enjoy the (wild) ride. The trading and trading analytics team is often joined by economists and people with technical profiles who are ambitious and curious – people who are interested in the market and how prices are affected by the variables of geopolitics, the economy and the weather, and how the market is becoming ever more interconnected and global. Probability, statistics and game theory all come into play when evaluating trading strategies. Our motto is: “The only sure thing is probability”.
The most inspiring project undertaken by our traders in recent times has been the management and optimisation of flexible energy sources, such as battery energy and gas storage systems, and the introduction of PPAs, which provide new renewable energy production sources from the whole of the Balkans with access to the market. Signing PPAs provides producers with access to the market, ensuring a return on their investments in renewables. It also encourages the construction of new electric power plants and contributes to a cleaner environment. As a PPA trader, we support the operation of these resources, ensure that they are competitive and contribute to decarbonisation targets.
The most inspiring project of our trading analysts recently is the fundamental simulation of the entire European electricity system. With fundamental simulation, we master all the fundamentals for most European countries and strive to make the best possible price forecasts for different maturities.
Team
Our team is expanding, and we are always inviting new talents to join it – experienced traders and trading analysts, or anyone who is just starting out. Experts in energy markets as well as those who have experience of financial markets and would like to move to a new, even more exciting environment can all find a place at GEN-I.
We work hard to develop our team, which is why we invite a range of candidates to join us – if they have the desire and motivation to trade, already have some experience of trading and know the basics and wish to continually develop and grow.
When looking to expand our team, we also invite ambitious candidates with an analytical mindset who are interested in working with data and models, have a basic understanding of data analysis, and are keen to grow and make professional progress in the field of analytics.
Trading is an activity that relies on emotions, probability and incomplete information – although we are happy to say that many of our decisions are supported by data supplied by our analysts. There can be no successful trading without high-quality analytics. Analysts can extract the key information from enormous quantities of data with the help of sophisticated models. They enable us to make careful decisions at the right time. We work with the analytics department daily, creating strategies together and adjusting quickly to dynamic market conditions.

An intraday trader
works to balance the global portfolio with electricity supply to prevent unexpected deviations that could provide problems for the network. They monitor key factors such as weather, electricity consumption and production, and the state of cross-border transmission capacities.
A short-term trader
looks for opportunities on the market for electricity that is to be supplied from the next day to the end of the current month. They do business on energy exchanges and directly with partners on the OTC market. They purchase cross-border transmission capacities and monitor the weather and electricity consumption and production constantly.
A cross-commodity trader
looks for trading opportunities on various energy markets, such as electricity, gas, emission coupons and oil. They monitor macroeconomic factors such as GDP growth and inflation and conclude transactions on energy exchanges and with partners on the OTC market.
A gas trader explores
opportunities on the gas market and ensures that the global gas supply portfolio is balanced to prevent deviations and put the gas supply network at risk. They also work with flexible products such as gas storage system management.
An environmental products trader
looks for opportunities on the environmental products market, such as emission coupons and guarantees of origin of electricity. They keep a close eye on the environmental policies of countries and the EU, as well as general macroeconomic data.
An algo trader
collects and analyses market data to identify patterns on which a trading strategy can be developed. They also develop models and simulations for forecasting market prices and data.
