Investment expansion into Bulgaria with three battery storage systems
Through GEN-I Invest, the GEN-I Group has successfully completed the acquisition of three large battery energy storage systems in Bulgaria: Belovo, Momchilgrad, and Parvomay 1, with a total capacity of 30 MW and a storage capacity of 76 MWh. These systems significantly enhance our rapidly growing energy storage portfolio.

With the transaction completed in June 2026, we have increased our total battery storage portfolio to 42 MW / 100 MWh. As an experienced investor and operator, we will also ensure the optimal integration of these systems into energy markets in Bulgaria, thereby actively contributing to greater stability of the power system.
We strengthened our international investment activities already in 2022 and 2024 with the construction of large solar power plants in North Macedonia, with a total capacity of 29 MW. The management of such investments has been taken over by the specialized subsidiary GEN-I Invest, which focuses on the acquisition of operational battery storage projects and other large-scale renewable energy projects in Central and Southeastern Europe.
Following the acquisition of the battery storage system in Kidričevo, our entry into the Bulgarian market represents GEN-I Invest’s first investment outside Slovenia and an important milestone in its further development. The company’s goal is to reach 100 MW of installed battery storage capacity by the end of 2026 through further acquisitions.

Our key advantage lies in our dual role – we act both as an investor and as an operator of energy assets. In addition to developing and managing our own investments, we are also intensively expanding services related to the optimization and management of battery storage systems for external partners. By the end of the year, we expect to manage approximately 800 MW of battery storage capacity under signed contracts. Direct operation of these assets provides us with valuable operational experience and in-depth insight into technical and market dynamics, enabling us to create added value for the system and our partners.
Bulgaria is currently among the fastest-growing European markets in the integration of battery storage systems. Its strategic location, developed cross-border interconnections, appropriate regulatory environment, and supportive mechanisms create favorable conditions for the development of large-scale energy projects.

In the coming years, battery storage systems will play a key role in the energy transition, as they enable greater integration of renewable energy sources, increase system flexibility, and contribute to more efficient use of energy. Through the consistent expansion of our international operations and the strengthening of our renewable energy portfolio, we are reinforcing our role as an active co-creator of a reliable, flexible, and sustainable European energy market.
